Further background
Educated at Boston University’s School of Fine and Applied Arts
as a theatrical director, early in his career Peter was associated
with the Charles Playhouse and was the originating producer of “SummerThing—The
Boston Neighborhood Arts Festival.” As a member of Actors’ Equity
he supervised national tours of musical comedies and worked with
some of America's greatest theatrical performers.
While serving as managing editor of Fusion
Magazine, Peter covered
major news stories, including Woodstock, the Democratic National
Convention in Chicago and the French National Strike. His articles
and photographs include iconic representations of the political
and social epoch of the 1960s.
A student of administration, planning and social policy while
at the Harvard Graduate School of Education and a teacher in the
Boston Schools, Peter also edited Boston Teacher, helping to formulate
and promote reform strategies for large public education systems.
His five thousand readers included all professional personnel in
the Boston Public Schools.
Peter was a founder of the City-Wide Educational Coalition, a
citizen advocacy group dedicated to easing racial strife during
the court-ordered desegregation of the Boston Public Schools. The
Coalition’s work was chronicled in the Pulitzer-prize-winning book
Common Ground by Anthony Lucas.
On behalf of the Interface Group, Peter marketed and produced
Comdex, the world's largest computer exposition and the primary
selling floor for the computer systems industry. As a member of
the Interface team, Peter staged computer expositions in virtually
every major American city, working with local convention authorities
and the media to promote audiences ranging from a few thousand
to upwards of 100,000 attendees. Later, Peter recruited and managed
a network of commercial computer systems vendors for Data General
Corporation in the New York City area.
Since 1984, Peter has worked independently as a marketing and
communications consultant, providing corporate and non-profit clients
with public relations, advertising, direct response and Web-related
services. As a ghostwriter, his work has appeared in dozens of
local, regional and national publications.
In the area of political consulting, Peter led condominium owners
in a successful municipal coalition effort to defeat rent control
in a mid-sized Massachusetts town. This was the first instance
of decontrol in the United States since the close of World War
II and served as a blueprint for the eventual decontrol of all
rental property in the state. Later, Peter managed media and Election
Day strategy in a successful revision of Massachusetts ballot law
and successfully managed an editorial campaign leading to the rescinding
of the Massachusetts Retroactive Capital Gains Tax.
